I'm a little cheezed at the letterboxing mailing list moderator.
I'm a relative newbie over there, and I'm on digest. There's been very little talk of letterboxing and a whole bunch of virus posts and ways to make your penis larger. There's also clues that get posted from people, so I kind of want to be on the list, for those rare times when someone actually -says- something important. (The biggest discussion the last couple weeks was whether to continue to allow attachments to the list or to make people put the clues in the text of their emails. For heavens' sakes -- that's so friggin' basic on any Yahoo list these days....TEXT or a LINK. Posting attachments is just dangerous over there.)
So I suggest to the moderator that they put the list on moderated-first post status. So that if someone joins, their first message is moderated, the rest go through fine, once they've made an actual content post . (as opposed to a virus post or something) It's a perfectly reasonable thing, given that more than 10% of the recent posts have been either viruses or spam.
He has a cow. Literally. Right there. Moo.
I'm suggesting to restrict free speech! I'm the problem, as are all of those non-tech-aware people using virus-vulnerable systems and software (most of windows users)! We're all BAD, since he's an internet security asshole, and he's not going to get all John Ashcroft on HIS LIST....
Well, fuck you very much, jerkoff. I was making a suggestion. AND I'm running Linux. The S.O. is a SECURITY SPECIALIST, so don't make generalizations before you flip the hell out. And it's not the responsibility of every single person out there to know every single thing about security, anyway -- if they did, HE would be OUT OF A JOB.
And I have relatively thick skin after being on the 'net for quite some time. I can't imagine how this little tirade might have affected someone who is new to the net or isn't as technically-aware. I'm sure there will now be some people who either a) leave the list, meaning less letterboxes for me to find, or b) don't speak up, ending in the same result. And dammit, I -like- letterboxing. I like hiking and making stuff and combining the two. So he can go live in his bitter little world for all I care -- I've been thinking of making my own site anyway, since there isn't one for international clues right now.
I utterly can't stand it when someone takes a suggestion and turns it into an accusation of assassination of character. I totally wasn't suggesting that he's a techno-moron and he should let Yahoo filter everything out. I wasn't suggesting that he become a list-nazi and filter people's content. I was trying to make everyone's experience better, with more on-topic info.
*rolls her eyes*
Some people's kids. Sheesh.
