still in computerless exile out here on the plains
And now Mom has started in with the "Wal-Mart is hiring" bullshit.

I'm like, "Um, Mom...I'm still writing the magazine. I just have to go to the library now to get orders and do my word processing."

Oh. She replies. Oh.

She's convinced that this computer explosion is just a divine sign from GOD that I'm supposed to quit this silly notion of actually liking what I do (she's seen the checks, she knows it pays, so it's no longer a money argument, it's a respectability to her friends one, I think.), and get a REAL job that has a timeclock and middle management.

As far as I'm concerned, if I'm paying my half of everything, it doesn't matter if I'm selling crack to five year olds. None. Of. Her. Business to tell me what I can do with my life. I am -not- her.

And I promised myself a few months ago that I was done apologizing for the way I live my life. I may not have some fancy car or my very own trailer (like my sainted brother, who can do no wrong in her eyes), but I'm happy, and D and I are waiting until after the wedding to move in together. Respectability issues. (And the fact that there are still places out here, even in the year 2003, that will not rent to an unmarried couple. No, I'm not kidding. Any time now, Kevin Bacon will show up and release us from our inhibitions by dancing his way into our hearts or something.)

My internet timer's up, so I need to go. Downloaded all the orders for today and plan on using this time offline to do a lot of hand-work. It's an exciting direction for the zines, actually. Necessity being the mother of invention and all that. Can't wait to see where it goes.

At the library...
I know most people don't check over here, but I'm at the library. My computer is officially dead. Motherboard issues. Possible hard drive issues, now that I've tried to access it. Which means, of course, that ALL of IQ10 is gone, OUT OF BOUNDS is gone, and all my email...poof. Not that I answer it often, but there were -orders- in there to fill.

GO MAKE STUFF is coming back from the printer tomorrow, and now there's no webpage for it. I'm hoping to talk to a friend and do some work from her house/connection tomorrow. At least get some way for people to order it up and live.

By the way -- I'm here because the local library has livejournal.com and mail.yahoo.com netnannied -- can't get to either one of 'em. Security violations. Tried going in through anonymizer instead, and got to livejournal but couldn't post. Got to my yahoo -groups-, but had to send the message via the online dealie rather than the email dealie. I hate redneck towns that think any access to sexual "deviance" (defined as anything other than boy-girl sex in the context of marriage) is cause to block off entire corners of the world. Is it any wonder I grew up the way I did?

Anyway, I'm popping another post at the top of this journal about how to get your kids a copy of their own zine, since I can't update the actual site yet.

send me snail mail, folks. I'm already feeling isolated. And since I've got about $650 yet to save up to get the cheapest computer in town (which, for the record, is still nicer than my old POS), so it may be awhile.

mail report -- I should get a separate blog for all this.
Thanks to Bobby Besley, I just realized that I left about half the international IQ9s sitting with the back issue orders. I'm blaming it on allergy-related forgetfulness. Really.

So, that said, here's what's going out today:

MIND'S EYE:
Caitlin O'Connor
J. Cullen

ME & HTAAB:
someone in Calgary who forgot to give me their name

IQ8
Cheryl Chouinard

HTAAB:
C. O'Connor
R. Ellison
S. Jefferson
J. Cullen
S. Brown

IQ9
L. Cassidy
P. Harrison
B. Besley
S. Brown
J. Worden
N. Hinds
H. Strauss

BACK ISSUE PACKS:
J. Wiley
Fruitbat the Unflappable. :)
A. Ditzel
K. Fultz
S. Bonchin
C. Simmons

If your name is NOT on this list of back issue packs and you ordered one, it's because I copied IQ6 with one page upside down, and rather than frustrate you, I'm recopying that page today and will be mailing the ENTIRE rest of the back issue orders TOMORROW. Check back for that list. Also tomorrow, another 20 Mind's Eye orders that I'm collating now, and possibly the first of the FIRST ARTZINE FOR KIDS, GO MAKE STUFF. There will be a webpage/announcement of that, shortly.
